In October, the United Arab Emirates welcomed technology leaders from around the world. It hosted the world's largest technology and innovation exhibition, GITEX Global 2025. Representatives from Lithuania also traveled to Dubai, where the conference was held.

A total of six Lithuanian companies demonstrated their technological advances at the national stand. One of them was IT Logika, which brought the DBOX project.

"We brought a drone base station, which is like a 'garage' for a drone, where it can live, be heated, cooled, charged, and otherwise serviced. These 'garages' are located on the roofs of city buildings or in other locations, and we can control the drones from anywhere in the world," said dr. Linas Gelažanskas, the creator and developer of DBOX.

For example, this technology is already in use in Vilnius. The Vilnius City Municipality has installed these drone base stations on the roofs of city buildings. Municipal companies control the drones themselves and use artificial intelligence to identify certain elements of the city's infrastructure. For example, one of the areas of activity is monitoring the waste management system. "Every day, Vilnius city trash cans are photographed twice and monitored to see what is around them—whether there is bulky waste, whether they are blocked so that the garbage truck cannot take away the trash, or if the container is open, because then birds can carry away the trash and litter the area. This alone has halved the tonnage of bulky waste in Vilnius," he said, presenting the technology.

The reason is simple, explains Gelažanskas: it doesn't hurt people to put a second piece of bulky waste next to the container, but it's more difficult to leave the first one out of place. This is just one of dozens of areas where this system can be used. He says that the technology developed by Lithuanians is gradually being adopted by the Dubai municipality, police, road transport administration, and areas where illegal littering is being combated.
