Advancements in drone technology are opening new opportunities for efficient monitoring and inspection across critical infrastructure.
Together with the Ignitis Group Innovation team, DBOX completed a pilot project testing an autonomous drone-box solution at one of the company’s solar parks. The aim was to evaluate how such technology can support faster inspections, improved site security, and real-time situational awareness.
The autonomous drone can perform scheduled inspection flights, monitor the perimeter of the solar park and inspect critical infrastructure areas. When triggered by alarms from existing security systems, it can also be deployed to inspect specific locations in real time. Equipped with high-resolution visual and thermal cameras, the system enables early detection of potential infrastructure issues, including hot spots in damaged PV modules.
The pilot project was carried out at the Varme PV park in Latvia, where the solution demonstrated its potential to support maintenance and security operations in large-scale solar installations.
Such solutions can significantly enhance infrastructure monitoring, improve operational efficiency and strengthen site security.
